Gov.
Elechi: 'A hunter caught in a hunter’s trap'
Any body who is not conversant with the politics of Ebonyi state would
think that much is on going in
the state since the present administration of Governor Martin Elechi
which clocked three years began in
May, 29th, 2007 due to the series of media propaganda in different
quarters in the state.
Governor, Martin Elechi came into office through the intervention of
the former governor of the state
and the immediate former minister for education, Dr. Sam Egwu who
pleaded with the opposition and
other contestants for the position to give Elechi chance to be the
governor, adding that he had
contributed so much and was one of the few persons that were at the
forefront for the creation of the
state.
His emergence was seen by so many political analysts as a mere
compensation for his role in the fight
or rather the agitation for the emancipation of the then part of the
Anambra state otherwise known as
Ebonyi state today and not that he was the best hand for the job. In one
of the public functions in the
state, the former governor of Anambra state, late Christian Onoh told
the people of the state how many
times he contested with governor Elechi and won him during the hotly
contests for the governorship of
the state.
According to the former governor, Elechi had always shown interest in
the governorship of the old
Anambra state but lacked the political muscle to be given the chance to
occupy the exalted position of
the
governor of the state. Late Onoh however maintained that governor Elechi
was a strong politician as at that time, he said that in
the
political terrain then which not too many people from this part of the
South East otherwise called
Ebonyi were involved, Elechi maintained a good and strong spirit to
fight.
When eventually his predecessor in office, Dr. Sam Egwu convinced
Elechi’s strong opponents like
Senators Julius Ucha, Emmanuel Agboti and so many others to step down
for Elechi at the main bowl of
Abakaliki township stadium, Elechi became the flag bearer of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP in 2007
and later won the governorship of the state.
He came into the office with so many promises that many people say today
that non of the promises
have been fully implemented and maintained that governor Elechi has done
so badly that he should not
seek for second term. Apart from what some factions of the PDP in
the state made up of the former chairmen of the party and
other powerful members of the party like the former state chairman.
Chief Obinna Ogba and the former
chairman of Afikpo North local government, Chief Idu Igariwy, there are
other mixed reactions that follow
the purported clarion call from some members of the state on the
governor to seek for second term.
Recently, the madness of some inconsequential nonentities in the state
who have resorted to praise
singing including the state House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt.
Hon. Barr. Augustine Nwankagu
and Conference of Nigeria Political Gov. Elechi:
